The Best Books for 2 Year Olds (according to Emerson)

I suppose it’s just another part of having a first grade teacher for a mommy, but this girl loves books, and that makes my heart very happy. The only books Matt can recall from his childhood are The Boxcar Children, which he says he only skimmed enough to write a report and earn free pizza. πŸ™‚ While my incredibly “numbers-oriented” hubby can’t remember any favorite books from his childhood, I am flooded with the happiest memories by simply hearing certain book titles. I can remember falling in love with the bright colors and vibrant pictures throughout The Napping House.Β Harry the Dirty Dog kept me laughing with every page. I’ll never forget the nights I spent cuddling in bed with my sister, listening to my mom’s teacher voice telling the tale of Island of the Blue Dolphins.Β I’ve always loved to read and I’m happy my daughter does too.

She could sit and flip through her books for hours. And now, she is into making up what she thinks each page says based on the picture and it’s kind of the most adorable thing ever. Being a former teacher, I had the opportunity to gather a ridiculous amount of stories from parents, students, garage sales, book fairs, experienced teachers, etc. Since then, Emmy’s gotten several keepers as presents from friends and family and I’ve invested in a few of my favorites from Amazon. I’m always on the hunt for great read-alouds for bed-time or just anytime. So, I’ve compiled a list of some of Em’s 35 favorites in case any of you mommas are looking to add to your collection…
