Kitchen in a Closet…

Last year my mom turned her closet under the stairs into the cutest little playroom for the grandbabies. Gram has a teeny tiny crib for her baby dolls and an adorable little dresser with a sharpie stove top. Emmy LOVES it! Every time we go over there, she knows right where to go. Every once in a while she emerges from the closet to take her babies on a stroller ride around the house or a shopping cart trip to Target. She could spend hours in there pretending to put her babies ni-night and cook dinner like a mommy.

Since we’ve been spending a little more time playing at home lately I decided to steal Gram’s fabulous idea for our own house. A few days ago I got to work cleaning out the closet beneath our own stairs. Good thing it hasn’t gotten too cluttered in our new place yet.

I decided to make it super bright and fun (whatever the little girl in me would have wanted!:)) I chose black chalkboard paint for the back wall and hottest hot pink I could find for the others. I also picked up some neon green for the bookcase and shelf. I added some of my pretty cookbooks and kitchen supplies that normally go unused for the decor.

I had originally hoped Matt could build her a mini-kitchen using all his cool new tools. After sketching out how I wanted it to look we realized it would wind up being a $200 ordeal, plus a lot of work sourcing all the materials. Then, after searching pinterest, I found this adorable one from Ikea. Best part, only $100!! I was also excited about all the diy makeovers I saw people doing on it. I love the idea that it can still be made unique! Ikea also has a great selection of pretend play utensils, pots, pans, and flatware. Matt’s next business trip to Houston better have time for him to make a pit stop here for me. 🙂

It’ll be a great place for her to play while I’m feeding Tucker or working in the kitchen. I can’t wait for all the future tea parties and “restaurant” that will be played in there with my girl.

AFTER pics to come…
